Who We Are

Background

When I met Dixie, a labradoodle, in 2021, I knew right away she was meant to be part of my life. I committed to 26 weeks of training so she could fit into my world, and along the way I discovered she had something extraordinary. Dixie loves people deeply and has a way of connecting with them that is hard to explain.

We became a nationally and locally certified pet therapy team and since 2022 we have completed over 145 visits with patients in nursing homes, hospitals, and hospice. No matter the age or background of the person we meet, Dixie finds a way to connect.

I (Dixie’s human) decided to share her companionship with people who may not be reached through traditional therapy dog programs but who still long for the comfort of time with a dog. Maybe you no longer have a pet but crave the companionship or maybe you simply want to visit with a new friend. My role is simply to bring Dixie to you.

About Dixie

Dixie was born in June 2021 and has grown into a joyful, loving, and observant companion. Her coloring is called phantom, a unique pattern that makes her stand out. She is playful and smart, and one of her favorite tricks is showing she can read two words. Dixie loves people most of all, and her happiest moments are spent cuddling, being close, and connecting with new friends.

Why We Do It

At the heart of what we do is a genuine love for connection. While Dixie naturally brings joy and comfort to everyone she meets, her human has come to deeply value the simple, meaningful act of being present with others and bearing witness to their stories. Through our visits, we have had the privilege of connecting with individuals across all stages of life, from infants to centenarians, each with a unique and remarkable journey. We have listened to stories of people who once walked the same halls as Martin Luther King Jr., and others who explored the world by a van long before “vanlife” had a name. These moments remind us that everyone has a story worth sharing, and we are honored to create space for connection, reflection, and companionship.
